In early December Ellenor Lions Hospices had to take the drastic action of launching an emergency appeal for funds stating that hospice care was at risk for 2,500 patients and that £200,000 must be raised in the next few months to secure the current levels of patient care.

The response from the general public was overwhelming, the messages of support heart warming, and the donations encouraging. Children have given their Christmas money, companies have held raffles and groups have had bucket collections to support their local hospice. The activity we have seen has been very heartening and has proved without doubt just how valuable the hospice is to the community.

We are now half way to reaching our target and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have been so generous in giving both time and money.

However we still have some way to go and so I am afraid still need to ask for your support. Please continue to give in any way you can, with your help we can prevent our patients being affected by the recession and continue to give them the level of care they have come to rely upon.

£10 will help to fund a therapeutic massage for a day therapy patient.

£35 will enable a highly trained Shining Lights nurse to administer a chemotherapy treatment to a child in the comfort of their own home.

£50 will provide two counselling sessions for a patient or bereavement support for a family.

£100 will provide four home visits for a patient by a qualified nurse.

£450 will enable a patient to stay at the Lions Hospice for 24 hours, receiving quality nursing care and support from the highly experienced team of Doctors and Nurses.

£2000 will help fund the 24hr on call service, a lifeline to many of our patients and their carers.

We care for around 2,500 families every year, employ over 200 local people and are supported by over 800 committed volunteers.  Highly trained, skilled and caring staff provide the numerous services offered. These include nursing care both in the home and hospice, respite care – offering families a much needed break in the knowledge that their loved one is being cared for by professionals, complementary therapies, counselling and bereavement support.  All services are given free of charge to our patients and their families and it has been possible to do this for over 20 years due to the generous support of the community.
